Extract PDF Pages

Extract specific pages or page ranges from any PDF into a single clean PDF or separate files in a ZIP archive locally in your browser.

When you only need the cover page, one table, and the signature page out of a hundred-page report, you can extract pages from PDF files right in your browser without uploading the document. Click the page thumbnails you want to keep - or type a range expression like 1, 14-16, 88 - and export your selection either combined into one clean PDF or saved as individual single-page PDFs inside a ZIP archive.

Situations where pulling selected pages beats printing to PDF

Many people try to save a few pages from a large PDF by opening the browser's Print dialog and choosing "Save as PDF" with a custom page range. While that works in a pinch, browser print-to-PDF engines often reflow margins, strip clickable hyperlinks, flatten form annotations, or add unwanted headers and footers. Extracting pages at the PDF object level copies the exact original page streams without running them through a virtual printer driver.

Compliance and procurement workflows need this daily. A 150-page Request for Proposal (RFP) might contain only four pages of technical requirements relevant to your engineering team, or a 60-page insurance policy might have a single 2-page schedule of benefits you need to forward to a clinic.

Sometimes you also want each extracted page saved as its own standalone file rather than merged together - for example, pulling three different certificate pages out of a training record so you can upload each certificate to a separate credential slot.

How to extract pages from PDF files

  1. Drop your source PDF into the upload box or click Select PDF File(s) to load all page thumbnails in your browser.
  2. Click the thumbnail cards of the pages you want to keep (they highlight with a blue EXTRACT badge), or type an expression like 1, 5-8, last in the Pages to Extract box and click Select Range.
  3. Choose your Export Packaging mode in the sidebar: Merge into One PDF or Separate PDF per Page (.ZIP).
  4. Click Extract & Download to save your selected pages immediately.

What sets this page extractor apart

Instead of forcing you to type blind page numbers, the workspace pairs visual thumbnail inspection with flexible output packaging.

  • Two export packaging modes: Choose Merge into One PDF when you want your selected pages (e.g., pages 1, 12, and 45) stitched into a single 3-page PDF document. Choose Separate PDF per Page (.ZIP) when you want doc-page-1.pdf, doc-page-12.pdf, and doc-page-45.pdf packaged individually in a ZIP archive.
  • Synchronized thumbnail & range selection: Click thumbnails visually or type comma-separated ranges including even, odd, and last. The selection counter updates live to show exactly how many pages will be exported.
  • Native vector page stream copying: Uses pdf-lib's copyPages method to transfer the original vector paths, embedded font subsets, and page dimensions without rasterizing or re-compressing.
  • Quick Invert and Odd/Even selectors: Pull all odd pages, all even pages, or invert your current selection with one click.
  • Direct handoff to other PDF tools: If you merge your extracted pages into a single PDF, you can pass that new file straight into the PDF Signer, Watermark Studio, or Compressor in one click.

Worked example: pulling 5 key pages from a 110-page contract

Suppose you receive Master-Lease-Agreement-2026.pdf (110 pages, 8,400 KB). Your finance department only needs:

  • Page 1 (Title & Parties summary)
  • Pages 14 through 16 (Rent & Escalation Schedule, 3 pages)
  • Page 110 (Executed Signature Page)

Inside the workspace:

  1. You type 1, 14-16, last into the Pages to Extract input and click Select Range.
  2. The counter confirms 5 pages selected for extraction out of 110 total pages (1 + 3 + 1 = 5).
  3. With Merge into One PDF selected, you click Extract & Download.
  4. The exported Master-Lease-Agreement-2026-extracted-5p.pdf contains exactly 5 pages (Page 1 is the title sheet, Pages 2–4 are the rent schedule, and Page 5 is the signature sheet) and weighs 410 KB - a 95.1% smaller file that contains only the clauses finance asked for.

Practical tips and edge cases

When you extract pages using the range box or thumbnail grid, pages are exported in ascending document order (for example, selecting pages 10, 2, and 5 exports them in order 2, 5, 10). If you want to place Page 10 before Page 2 in the final file, either switch to the PDF Page Organizer or click Open in PDF Organizer in the post-export handoff bar to drag them into a custom sequence.

Also keep in mind that internal "Go to Page" table-of-contents links that point to pages you did not extract will no longer have a target destination inside the smaller file, whereas external web URLs (https://...) on the extracted pages continue to work normally.

Privacy and client-side execution

Your source PDF and the extracted pages never leave your device. Both the thumbnail preview rendering (PDF.js) and the page extraction/ZIP packaging (pdf-lib and JSZip) run 100% in local browser memory.

How pdf-lib page copying keeps extracted files lightweight

A common frustration with basic PDF tools is extracting 2 pages from a 25 MB annual report and discovering that the newly saved 2-page PDF is still 24.8 MB!

  • Why naive tools leave bloated files: If a script simply hides pages 3–100 from the page tree without building a fresh PDF container, all the giant high-resolution photographs and font subsets from the other 98 pages remain sitting inside the file as unreferenced binary objects.
  • Clean document reconstruction: When you extract pages here, the engine initializes a brand-new, empty PDFDocument instance in memory and copies only the object streams, fonts, and embedded XObject images referenced by your selected page numbers. Extracting 2 text pages from a 25 MB photo-heavy catalog typically produces a lean 60 KB to 180 KB file.

To divide an entire book into chapters at once, use PDF Split & Range Divider. If you prefer to mark the few pages you want to discard, open Delete PDF Pages. You can also convert extracted pages into PNG or JPG files with PDF to Image or combine them with other files in PDF Merge & Combiner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extract non-consecutive pages like page 1, page 7, and page 20 into one PDF?

Yes. Either click thumbnails 1, 7, and 20 in the preview grid or type 1, 7, 20 in the range box, keep Merge into One PDF selected, and the tool will combine those three sheets into a single 3-page PDF.

How do I save each extracted page as its own separate PDF file?

Switch the Export Packaging option in the left sidebar from Merge into One PDF to Separate PDF per Page (.ZIP). Each selected page will be saved as an individual 1-page PDF inside a single ZIP download.

Why is extracting pages here better than using Chrome Print to PDF?

Browser Print-to-PDF re-renders the page through a print stylesheet, which often adds white margins, changes page scaling, and breaks vector layers. This tool copies the raw PDF page objects directly with zero layout shifts.

Does extracting pages alter the original PDF on my computer?

Your original file on disk is read-only and remains completely untouched. The extracted pages are written into a new downloaded file.

Can I extract pages from a password-locked PDF?

Drop the encrypted file into the workspace and type the open password when prompted. Once unlocked in browser memory, you can extract any range of pages into a new unencrypted PDF.

Is there a page limit on the source PDF I can load?

You can load multi-hundred-page PDFs as long as they fit within your browser tab memory (typically up to 250 MB on desktop browsers), and extracting 2 or 3 pages from a 300-page file takes less than a second.
