Delete PDF Pages

Remove unwanted pages from any PDF file by clicking thumbnails or typing page ranges like 1, 3-5, last locally in your browser.

Downloaded reports and bank statements are often padded with legal boilerplate, trailing advertisement sheets, or accidental blank scanner pages. You can delete PDF pages in seconds by clicking the thumbnails you want to drop or typing a range expression like 1, 4-6, last. The workspace shows a live count of how many pages are marked for removal and how many will remain before you export a clean, smaller PDF.

Why removing extra pages is the cleanest way to trim a PDF

Monthly bank and credit card statements routinely attach four to six pages of standard terms, fee disclosures, and promotional banners at the end of every PDF. When an accountant, landlord, or visa officer asks for your statement, sending only the transaction pages keeps the document focused and saves them from scrolling through boilerplate.

Print jobs and duplex scans are another frequent reason to prune pages. If a 50-page document was formatted with blank even pages for double-sided book printing, reading it on a screen means scrolling past 25 empty white sheets. Selecting all even pages in one click removes every blank spacer at once.

Deleting unnecessary pages also shrinks file size without touching image resolution. If page 2 of a contract PDF contains a massive 6 MB promotional cover photo you do not need, dropping page 2 cuts 6 MB off the file while keeping the remaining contract text at 100% vector quality.

How to delete PDF pages in four steps

  1. Drag your PDF file into the upload zone or click Select PDF File(s) to render every page in the thumbnail grid.
  2. Click any page thumbnail card in the right-hand grid to toggle its red DELETE badge, or type a page expression such as 2, 5-8, last into the Page Range to Delete input box and click Mark Range.
  3. Use the quick-select buttons (Even Pages, Odd Pages, Invert, or Clear All) if you want to mark patterns in bulk.
  4. Verify the Remaining Pages counter in the sidebar and click Delete Selected Pages & Download to save your cleaned PDF.

Visual selection and range-expression features

Whether you are dropping a single trailing blank page or removing complex intervals from a 200-page report, the workspace gives you two synchronized ways to mark pages.

  • Interactive click-to-mark thumbnail grid: Every page renders as a visual preview card. Clicking a card dims the thumbnail and stamps a high-contrast red MARKED FOR DELETION badge over it so you never accidentally delete the wrong page.
  • Smart range expression parser: Type single page numbers (3), hyphenated ranges (12-19), or keywords like last, even, and odd separated by commas (for example, 1, 14-18, last) to mark dozens of pages without scrolling.
  • One-click Even, Odd, and Invert helpers: Need to strip every back-side scan? Click Mark Even Pages. Realized you marked the pages you wanted to keep instead of the ones you wanted to delete? Click Invert Selection to flip the selection immediately.
  • Zero-page safety lock: The exporter checks that at least 1 page remains unselected before building the output PDF, preventing you from generating a corrupted zero-page file.
  • Lossless stream preservation: Remaining pages are copied directly into a fresh PDFDocument container via pdf-lib, leaving their fonts, links, and resolution completely unchanged.

Worked example: pruning a 34-page statement down to 26 pages

Suppose you download Annual-Account-Summary.pdf (34 pages, 2,890 KB). Looking at the thumbnails, you see:

  • Page 1 is a marketing cover sheet.
  • Pages 2 through 27 are your actual monthly transaction tables (26 pages).
  • Pages 28 through 34 are 7 pages of fine-print fee schedules and foreign-exchange disclosures.

Instead of clicking 8 individual thumbnails:

  1. You type 1, 28-last into the Page Range to Delete box and click Mark Range.
  2. The sidebar status banner immediately updates: 8 pages marked for removal · 26 pages will remain (34 − 8 = 26).
  3. You glance at the grid to confirm Page 1 and Pages 28–34 show the red deletion badge while Pages 2–27 remain bright.
  4. You click Delete Selected Pages & Download.

The downloaded Annual-Account-Summary-cleaned.pdf contains 26 pages (renumbered 1 through 26 in the PDF structure) and drops in size from 2,890 KB to 1,940 KB because the heavy graphics on the marketing cover sheet were discarded.

When to use Delete Pages versus Extract Pages

A quick rule of thumb saves time on large documents:

  • If you have a 50-page PDF and want to drop 4 pages (keeping 46), use Delete PDF Pages.
  • If you have a 50-page PDF and only want to keep 3 pages (dropping 47), either mark the 3 pages here and click Invert Selection, or open the Extract PDF Pages tool where you select only the pages you want to keep.

Also remember that removing pages changes the total page count of the PDF container, but it does not rewrite static text printed inside the page content stream. If Page 4 has the literal text "Page 4 of 10" typed at the bottom and you delete Page 1, that sheet becomes the 3rd page of a 9-page PDF while still showing its original printed footer.

Local processing guarantee

Your original file on your computer or phone is never modified or uploaded. PDF.js renders the page thumbnails in your browser tab, and pdf-lib writes the new cleaned file directly into a local download blob.

When to use Delete Pages vs Extract Pages vs Split PDF

Because all three tools reshape the page count of a document, picking the one that matches your goal saves clicks:

  • Use Delete Pages when you want to keep most of the document and throw away a few unwanted sheets (for example, deleting 2 blank separator pages and 1 cover ad from a 45-page bank statement so you end up with a single clean 42-page PDF).
  • Use Extract PDF Pages when you only want to pull out a few specific pages from a huge book (for example, pulling pages 14–16 out of a 300-page specification manual is much faster by typing 14-16 to keep than typing 1-13, 17-300 to delete).
  • Use Split PDF when you want to divide a document into multiple separate PDF files (such as breaking a 20-page batch scan into ten 2-page invoices packaged in a .zip archive).

Related PDF utilities

If you only want to pull out a few pages into a new file, use Extract PDF Pages. To move pages around or insert blank sheets alongside deleting, switch to the PDF Page Organizer, divide files into chapters with PDF Split & Range Divider, or shrink the remaining pages further in PDF Compress & Optimizer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I delete the very last page of a PDF without scrolling to the bottom?

Type the word last into the Page Range to Delete input box in the left sidebar and click Mark Range. The tool automatically resolves the final page number and marks only that sheet for removal.

What if I mark the pages I want to keep by mistake?

Click the Invert Selection button in the left panel. It immediately flips every marked page to unmarked and marks all the other pages for deletion, saving you from starting over.

Does deleting pages from a PDF overwrite my original file?

Web browsers never overwrite your local source file. Your original PDF stays intact in its folder, and the tool saves a brand-new file with -cleaned.pdf appended to the name.

Why did my file size not drop proportionally when I deleted half the pages?

If the pages you kept share embedded font subsets or color profiles with the pages you deleted, those shared resources remain in the file. However, any images unique to the deleted pages are completely removed.

Can I delete all odd or all even pages at once?

Click Mark Even Pages or Mark Odd Pages in the sidebar, or type even or odd into the range box. That marks every alternating page across the entire document in a single step.

Can I remove pages from an encrypted bank statement PDF?

Yes. Drop the encrypted statement into the upload box, enter its open password in the local prompt, and you can delete pages and export an unlocked, cleaned copy.
